Handstands Do What?!

14 Day Handstand Challenge!

But WHY???

Ok, so aside from obviously the great upper body strength and core work it takes to do a handstand, I have other great info to share with you about hormones in your body and how handstands can help you in your day to day life!

First off, by having the blood flow to the head, it stimulates your endocrine system. That sounds nice, right?! But what does that actually mean?

1. Your pituitary gland which is the "master gland" of the body stimulates the secretion and function of many hormones in the body. It is important to stimulate the pituitary gland and maintain a healthy hormone level. And , one of the functions of the pituitary is to help in distinguishing the set point of a healthy weight. ;)

2. Your thyroid is also stimulated, releasing more T3 and T4 hormone, which affects your metabolism. Rev that engine!

3. Ok, then if we bump down (or up since we're upside down) to the kidneys, the adrenal gland is stimulated by the flux of blood flow to the kidney which decreases release of cortisol, our "stress hormone." Cortisol can be so damaging to the system in high amounts. It is important to allow the body to destress and detoxify often.

Secondly, handstands can also be done to decrease minor depression and relieve headaches by bringing extra oxygen to the head and relieving neck strain.

Lastly, as we already pointed out... you will get majorly toned up! So lets chisel up those lats, traps, deltoids, and pecs and take care of our systems!
